One could discover some new resources and bring it back to their country, make it known and be successful for that. One can also discover new sea routes to places for future benefits. One can also establish relations with the people in the new land for future benefits. By establishing relations, there can always be advantages like support and also land gaining.
What are the risks involved in embarking on a voyage into the unknown?
There are numerous risks involved. Weather is definitely an issue because it can throw a ship off direction which could cause it to get lost. Shortage of resources could also be an issue. They can’t predict the exact number of days they would be at sea and so unless they pack abundant food, they might reach a shortage of food. They can also encounter foreigners along the way that aren’t very welcoming and friendly.
What will you do if you actually run into other people?
If I actually run into other people, I wouldn’t want them to be a burden to my journey and so I would just move out of their way. If they were people of Europe and I would want to maybe establish relations for further benefits and so that they’d let my ship and crew pass through. I’d also want to establish trade. I would definitely not want to cause a conflict and maybe they could help me with my voyage along the way.
